— Cary & the Research Triangle, North Carolina

What SEO costs in Cary, and what it costs in month thirteen

We pulled the published rates from providers serving Cary and the Triangle and put them side by side. Then we look at the number most quotes are built to hide: what you pay once the introductory period ends.

Published September 2026 · Based on publicly listed pricing from providers serving Cary, Wake County and the Research Triangle

The short answer

Published prices for Cary and the Triangle run from about $750 per month to $15,000 for integrated programmes. Most Cary businesses invest $1,500 to $5,000 per month, and single-location local SEO often starts lower.

Local providers put small-business work across the Triangle at $1,000 to $5,000 a month, with one-off projects from $2,500 to $10,000.

But the monthly figure on the first invoice is not always the one you will be paying. Ask every provider what month thirteen costs, and whether month-to-month starts immediately or only after a minimum term. More on that below.

Published Cary and Triangle prices, side by side

Triangle pricing has a reputation for being opaque. Several providers here publish anyway, which gives you a real floor and ceiling rather than a sales call.

— The month thirteen test

The first invoice is not the price. Month thirteen is.

Two common structures in this market make SEO look cheaper at the start than it will be across the relationship. Neither is dishonest. Both are easy to misread when you are comparing quotes.

Introductory rates. At least one Triangle provider offers early clients a founding rate of around $497 a month for the first year, after which they move to a discounted version of the standard tier. That can genuinely be a good deal. But on a $1,500 tier, 20 percent off is about $1,200 a month from month thirteen, and that is the number your budget has to survive.

Month to month, eventually. Some agreements are month to month only once an initial minimum term has passed. Also perfectly legitimate. It just means the flexibility you are buying starts later than the phrase suggests.

How to compare quotes properly

Ask every provider the same three questions, then do the arithmetic yourself:

  • What does month thirteen cost? Not the starting price, the ongoing one.
  • What is the minimum term? If the answer is anything other than none, find out exactly how long and what leaving early costs.
  • What changes at renewal? Scope, price, reporting, who does the work.

Then multiply out 24 months for each quote and compare those totals rather than the headlines. A $497 year followed by a $1,200 year is about $20,400 over two years. A flat $900 a month is $21,600. A flat $1,500 is $36,000. The cheapest-looking quote is often not the cheapest one, and the reverse is true just as often.

For the record, our own numbers do not move. There is no introductory rate and no minimum term, so month thirteen costs exactly what month one did. That is not necessarily cheaper. It is just easier to budget.

Why Cary is not Raleigh, even inside one market

$134,905Cary median household income, against about $83,695 in Raleigh
179,306Residents, the 7th largest municipality in North Carolina
68.4%Of adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
SASThe world’s largest privately held software company is headquartered here

Almost every pricing guide for this market is written about Raleigh, and it is fair to treat the Triangle as one competitive area for agencies. It is not one market for customers. Cary median household income sits near $134,905, roughly 61 percent above Raleigh at around $83,695, and well above Wake County at $105,768. The neighbours pull even higher: Apex near $145,857, Morrisville and Holly Springs near $130,000.

That shapes what wins. Cary grew up around Research Triangle Park, its population doubling repeatedly after 1959, and it is home to SAS Institute and a heavily technical workforce. With 68.4 percent of adults holding a degree, buyers here research properly before calling, and local businesses tend to compete on quality and convenience rather than price. Pages built to win a cheap, high-volume Raleigh search often underperform in Cary, where the customer is reading carefully and choosing on trust.

The practical upshot: if you serve Cary, Apex and Morrisville, do not let anyone sell you a Raleigh-shaped strategy. Your geography, your content depth and your conversion copy should look different.

What each price tier actually buys

Convert every quote into hours before judging it. A real campaign takes a skilled person roughly 15 to 25 hours a month, and anything priced as if it were three hours is either narrower than it sounds or not happening.

Entry local SEO

$300 to $1,000 per month

Google Business Profile work, citations, on-page basics and a monthly report. Local providers warn that anything below about $250 to $400 is where quality falls away sharply.

Useful for a single-location Cary business in a quiet category where the map pack is winnable on fundamentals. Not enough for anything competitive.

Fits: single location, low competition, mainly map pack.

Real single-location SEO

$1,000 to $2,500 per month

A proper technical fix list, Google Business Profile management, review strategy, content written for Cary buyers rather than generic Triangle copy, and citation cleanup across the towns you actually serve.

Most single-location Cary service businesses belong here, and it matches the most common retainer band nationally.

Fits: one location competing across Cary, Apex, Morrisville or Holly Springs.

Competitive categories

$2,500 to $5,000 per month

Ongoing original content, digital PR and link acquisition, conversion work, and optimisation for AI answer engines. Healthcare, financial services and premium home services in Cary live here, because an affluent customer base and a dense Wake County market make organic search unusually valuable.

Fits: high-value services where one new client repays several months of fees.

Integrated and multi-location

$5,000 to $15,000+ per month

SEO combined with content, paid search and demand generation, or several locations across the Triangle. At this level you are buying a team and a pipeline model rather than a specialist.

Fits: B2B firms selling into the RTP technology base, multi-site practices, regional brands.

— There is a fifth option

Buy the diagnosis before you commit to any term

Every tier above asks you to start paying monthly, sometimes under a minimum term, before anyone has told you what is actually wrong. That is backwards.

So start at the other end. A flat-fee diagnosis from $295 tells you what is broken, what it is worth fixing, and roughly what that should cost with anyone. Then choose: do it yourself, hand it to your developer, hire one of the good Triangle providers in that table, or put us on a retainer at $900 to $2,500 with no minimum term. The plan is yours regardless.

Note the red rows. If your priority is the lowest possible bill in year one, a founding rate will beat us and we would rather say so. If you want to sit across a table in Cary, hire locally. What we offer instead is predictability: one published price that does not step up, no minimum term, and a diagnosis you can buy on its own.

Why a Cary business would pick us

  • Month thirteen costs what month one didNo introductory rate, no step-up, no renewal surprise. You can budget a full year on day one, which in this market is less common than it should be.
  • No minimum term, from the first dayNot month to month after a commitment. Month to month from the start. You stay because it works.
  • You can test our thinking before speaking to anyoneOur free checker follows your links for broken pages and 404s and flags what is costing you visibility. No form, no discovery call. It is still in development and gives a rough snapshot rather than a full crawl, but you can judge it in twenty seconds.
  • Built for Cary buyers, not Raleigh onesA customer base this educated reads before calling. Content built to answer properly, with evidence, is the work rather than an optional extra.
  • SEO and the build in one pair of handsStructure, headings, schema and internal linking get decided during the build, not bolted on by a second person afterwards.
  • We will tell you when a cheaper option fits betterIf a founding-rate provider suits your first year, or a local team suits your situation, we will say so plainly.

What we charge, on that same scale

Here are our own numbers in full, the same in Cary as anywhere else. They do not change in month thirteen.

Start here: the free check

$0

Our checker follows your links for broken pages and 404s and flags what is costing you visibility. No email needed for the critical issues. It is still under development, so it reviews the page you give it plus a sample of its links rather than crawling your whole site. Think of it as a rough snapshot.

Use it if: you want evidence before you spend anything, including on us.

The diagnosis: full SEO audit

$295 / $475 / $850 one-time, by site size

Under 30 pages is $295, 30 to 60 pages is $475, 60 plus pages is $850. Full technical crawl, on-page review, content gap analysis against your top three competitors, backlink profile with toxic links flagged, Core Web Vitals, AI search visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews, Google Business Profile audit, a prioritised action plan and a recorded video walkthrough.

Use it if: you want to know what is wrong before agreeing to any term with anyone.

The ongoing work: monthly retainer

$900, $1,500 or $2,500 per month

Three tiers matched to how competitive your market is, agreed on the call. The $1,500 growth tier is where most clients land.

There is no contract and no minimum term. No introductory rate that steps up either. The price you agree is the price in month thirteen.

Use it if: you compete in a real Wake County category and want predictable monthly execution.

If the site itself is the problem: WordPress build

From $1,700 one-time

Mobile-first, SEO-ready from day one with schema and heading structure baked in, Core Web Vitals engineered in, Analytics and Search Console connected, and 30 days of post-launch support. Full ownership of everything, credentials and hosting included.

Use it if: your site cannot convert or cannot be fixed economically.

— Read the two tables together

Our growth retainer at $1,500 a month sits right in the middle of what Cary businesses typically spend, and it stays there. No founding rate that expires, no minimum term, no renewal step. The difference is not really the number. It is that the number does not move and nothing locks you in while you find out whether it works.

And there is one option almost nobody in that first table offers. You can pay $295 once, get the full diagnosis, and walk away. In a market full of introductory rates and initial commitments, buying clarity before any term is the most flexible decision available.

Before you sign anything, find out where you actually stand

Run the free checker for a quick read on broken links, missing schema, thin pages and AI visibility gaps. No email needed for the critical findings, no sales call, no obligation. It is a rough snapshot rather than a full crawl, the paid audit is where we go deep.

How it works

Step 1

Run the free check

About 20 seconds, costs nothing, no call required.

Step 2

Full audit, $295

Every issue found, ranked by what will move rankings and revenue first, with the fix specified.

Step 3

Fix it, together or alone

Do it yourself, hand it to your developer, hire locally, or put us on a retainer from $900. No term either way.

What actually drives your number

  • Year one versus year two. The Triangle-specific one. Introductory rates change the real annual cost more than most people notice.
  • Your category. Healthcare, financial services and premium home services in Cary compete against well-funded Wake County rivals.
  • Which towns you target. Cary plus Apex plus Morrisville plus Holly Springs is four sets of local signals, not one.
  • The state of your site. Broken links, thin pages and missing structured data mean remediation before growth.
  • Content depth. The biggest recurring cost, and the most educated buyers punish thin content fastest.
  • Links and digital PR. The most expensive line item, quietly dropped from cheap packages.

Where the money leaks

Budgeting on the introductory rateThe first-year price is real, but it ends. Build your plan on month thirteen, or you will have to cut SEO right when it starts compounding.
A minimum term you did not clockMonth to month after an initial commitment is not the same as month to month. Know the term before you sign.
A Raleigh strategy for a Cary businessChasing cheap, high-volume Raleigh searches with copy written for price-shoppers rarely converts buyers who are choosing on quality.
Packages below the hours they implyLocal providers themselves warn about anything under roughly $250 to $400 a month. The arithmetic does not contain real work.
Ranking guaranteesNobody controls Google’s results. A guaranteed number one is either meaningless or a warning sign.

When you should not hire anyone yet

  • Your site cannot convert. More traffic multiplies a leak. Fix the site first.
  • You have never claimed your Google Business Profile. In a map-pack-heavy market like Cary, that free asset often beats the first months of any retainer.
  • You need leads in 30 days. SEO compounds over three to six months. Ads buy immediate visibility.
  • Under about $400 a month. Below the floor Triangle providers themselves describe. Raise the budget or narrow the target.

Does your SEO provider need to be in Cary?

For the actual work, no. Technical SEO, content and site architecture are not affected by where the person doing them sits, and several Triangle providers serve Cary from Raleigh, Durham or further afield.

Proximity is worth something in two cases. If you want to meet across a table, local helps. And Google Business Profile work touches physical verification and local reputation, which benefits from someone who knows Wake County.

This holds well beyond North Carolina, and it is why our prices are the same in every city we work in. Outside those two cases, a Cary address does not make a site rank.

So here is the fair test, and apply it to us as hard as you apply it to anyone local: ask them to show you something you can verify yourself, and ask what month thirteen costs. A live page, a real ranking, a tool you can run on your own site right now. That is exactly why our checker is free and public.

Common questions

How much does SEO cost in Cary, NC?

Published prices for Cary and the Triangle run from about $750 per month to $15,000 for integrated programmes. Most Cary businesses invest $1,500 to $5,000 per month, and single-location local SEO often starts lower.

What is a founding or introductory rate?

A reduced price for early clients, usually for the first year, after which the client moves to a standard or discounted standard tier. It can be a good deal, but budget around the month-thirteen price rather than the starting one.

Does month to month always mean no commitment?

No. Some providers are month to month only after an initial minimum term. Ask how long the minimum is and what leaving early costs.

Is Cary priced differently from Raleigh?

Agencies treat the Triangle as one market, but the customers differ. Cary median household income is around $134,905 against about $83,695 in Raleigh, so Cary businesses tend to sell higher-value services and win on quality rather than price.

How long does SEO take in Cary?

Technical and Google Business Profile fixes can move within weeks. Meaningful movement in competitive Cary categories usually takes three to six months, with substantial growth over six to twelve.

What does Volt Audit charge?

The checker is free. A full audit is $295 for sites under 30 pages, $475 for 30 to 60 pages, and $850 for 60 plus pages, all one-time. Monthly retainers are $900, $1,500 or $2,500 with no minimum term and no introductory rate. A WordPress rebuild starts at $1,700.

Stop guessing what your SEO should cost

A Triangle provider will happily quote you a first-year number. Ask for month thirteen and the minimum term before you compare anything. Or start at the other end: get the full diagnosis from $295, see exactly what is wrong, then decide whether you want monthly help at $900 to $2,500 with no term, or nothing at all.

No contracts. No introductory rates. Published pricing that does not change in month thirteen.
