SEO for Remodeling Contractors: Get Found During the Six Months of Research
Nobody wakes up and hires a remodeler that afternoon. They research for months, quietly, comparing costs and looking at other people’s kitchens. The contractor who shows up throughout that process is the one who gets the call.
Remodeling SEO is built around a long research cycle: a page per project type (kitchen, bathroom, whole home, additions), honest cost content, deep real project galleries, and local pages per area. You are not competing for a click, you are staying visible for six months while they decide.
The opportunity, in numbers
Figures compiled from Google and BrightLocal research as reported in 2026 local search statistics roundups. Exact percentages vary between studies.
For a trade where one signed contract can be worth more than a year of marketing, that last figure is the whole opportunity. Most of your competition is relying on referrals and a portfolio page from 2019.
What it costs to do nothing
Remodeling is the clearest arithmetic in local search, because the job values are so large that a single additional project rewrites the year. Run yours in the free ROI calculator:
One extra kitchen at the midpoint of that range roughly covers the entire annual investment on margin alone. Two make it the best-performing line in your marketing. The question is not whether it pays, it is whether you are visible during the months when the decision is actually made.
What remodeling customers actually search
Remodeling search is a months-long trail of cost anxiety and inspiration, ending in a very short shortlist.
Almost every contractor site targets only the last two. That is competing for the final week of a six-month decision, against everyone else, at the moment price becomes the differentiator. Show up during the early cost research instead and you are the expert they already trust when the shortlist forms.
Where remodeling websites lose the project
Cost is the single most searched remodeling topic and the one contractors most refuse to address. Publishing honest ranges with clear variables does not lose you jobs, it filters out the homeowner with a $15,000 budget and a $60,000 vision before they consume three hours of your time.
Twelve photos on one portfolio page rank for nothing. Each project deserves its own page: the brief, the constraints, materials, timeline, before and after. These become the pages that rank for specific searches and the proof that closes the sale.
These are entirely different searches with different budgets and different buyers. Combining them guarantees ranking for none, and forfeits the highest-value project types.
Remodeling is intensely local and reputation-driven. An incomplete Google profile with a handful of reviews undercuts a contractor whose actual work is excellent. Fixed under local SEO services.
What actually moves a remodeling company
Should you handle this in-house?
The method is free in my SEO audit checklist and a detail-minded office manager can execute much of it. The realistic problem is that this takes 15 to 20 hours a month, and remodeling businesses are chronically short on admin capacity during the exact seasons when next year’s pipeline gets built. Content written in January is what fills the calendar in June.
Fieldhouse Renovation Co. is a full demo site I designed and built to show exactly how this plays out. Published cost bands, a what-drives-the-number breakdown and project cards with real budgets.
