— Eindhoven & the Brainport region, Netherlands

What SEO costs in Eindhoven, and when it beats hiring someone

Eindhoven companies are used to doing the maths on talent. So we did it for SEO: what Dutch providers charge, what an in-house SEO specialist really costs, and when each makes sense. Then the part most Dutch price guides leave out: in a region where half the high-tech workforce is not Dutch, a lot of your buyers search in English.

The short answer

Dutch SEO prices run from about €500 a month with a freelancer to €1,500 to €3,500 with a small-business agency, and the average Dutch SME spends €1,000 to €2,500 a month. Prices are almost always quoted excluding 21% BTW.

The comparison that matters in Eindhoven is the other one: employing a mid-level SEO specialist costs around €5,500 to €7,500 a month all-in, or €66,000 to €90,000 a year. For most companies, outsourcing the same work costs a fraction of that.

— Hire or outsource?

Before you hire an SEO specialist, do this maths

Eindhoven companies hire specialists for everything, so “should we just hire someone for SEO?” is a natural question. Here is what each option costs over a year, using published Dutch figures.

OptionPer monthPer yearWhat you get
Volt Audit retainer~€785 to €2,175~€9,420 to €26,100One senior specialist, no contract, no salary, no recruitment
Dutch freelancer€500 to €2,500€6,000 to €30,000Varies widely with experience and hours
Dutch SME agency€1,500 to €3,500€18,000 to €42,000A team, often with a minimum term
In-house mid-level SEO specialist€5,500 to €7,500€66,000 to €90,000One person, plus tools, recruitment and management time

Agency, freelance and in-house figures from Searchlab’s published Dutch SEO cost guide. In-house cost is the all-in monthly cost of a mid-level specialist, not the gross salary alone.

When hiring makes sense: when SEO is central to your business model and genuinely needs a full working week, every week, for years. When it does not: for most small and mid-sized companies, who need senior judgement and a steady 12 to 24 hours of work a month, which is what Dutch mid-range packages typically include, not a full-time salary. Hiring too early also means paying a junior to learn on your site.

— The English-language market

In Eindhoven, a lot of your buyers search in English

Around 44 percent of Eindhoven residents have a foreign background. Roughly 5,000 international workers move to the region every year, and according to the mayor, in high-tech half the workforce is not Dutch.

Those people need dentists, accountants, estate agents, gyms, lawyers and builders, and many of them search in English. A Dutch-only website is close to invisible to them. A properly built English version, with real content rather than a machine-translation button, correct language tags and an English-friendly Google Business Profile, can win searches that most local competitors are not even trying for.

The same applies in business-to-business. Brainport suppliers sell to engineering teams and international buyers who often research in English. If your capabilities only exist in Dutch, you are invisible to part of the market that pays best.

One more thing to check: BTW

Dutch business services are normally quoted excluding BTW, which is 21 percent at the standard rate. A €1,500 retainer is €1,815 on the invoice. Most businesses can reclaim it, but compare quotes on the same basis.

The Eindhoven market in numbers

44.4%Eindhoven residents with a foreign background, the highest in North Brabant
~5,000International workers moving to the region every year
1 in 2High-tech workers who are not Dutch, according to the mayor
2.5%Regional economic growth in 2023, while the national economy stood still

Eindhoven is the centre of the Brainport region, home to high-tech manufacturers and their supply chains. It is also one of the most international cities in the Netherlands, which is why the English-language opportunity above is real rather than theoretical. For local businesses, the surrounding towns matter too: Veldhoven, Best, Nuenen and Geldrop-Mierlo are separate local searches with their own customers.

What each price tier actually buys

Searchlab’s Dutch price guide links each budget to the hours behind it. That is the most useful way to read any quote.

Basic

Under €1,000 a month · 4–8 hours

A technical check, basic optimisation of existing pages and a monthly report. Enough to keep things tidy, rarely enough to grow.

Fits: small local businesses in quiet categories.

Mid-range

€1,000 to €2,500 a month · 12–24 hours

Content, on-page and technical SEO and some link building. The most common choice for Dutch SMEs.

Fits: established local and B2B companies.

Premium

€2,500 to €5,000 a month · 24–40 hours

Serious content, link building, technical and conversion work, and strategy. Bilingual Dutch and English sites often need this level of effort.

Fits: competitive sectors and companies selling internationally.

Enterprise

€5,000 to €10,000+ a month

Multiple markets, large sites and a team behind them.

Fits: large Brainport companies and international brands.

— There is a fifth option

Find out what you actually need before hiring anyone

Before you hire a specialist or sign an agency retainer, it pays to know what is broken, and whether you need an English version at all.

So start at the other end. A flat-fee diagnosis from about €255 (US$295) tells you what is holding the site back, how big your English-language opportunity is, and roughly how many hours a month it really needs. The report is yours to keep, whoever does the work.

It is still under development, so it reviews the page you give it plus a sample of its links rather than crawling your whole site. Think of it as a rough snapshot.

Use it if: you want evidence before you spend anything, including on us.

The diagnosis: full SEO audit

About €255 / €415 / €740 one-off

That is US$295 for under 30 pages, US$475 for 30 to 60, and US$850 for 60 plus. Full technical crawl, on-page review, content gap analysis against your top three competitors, backlink profile, Core Web Vitals, AI search visibility, Google Business Profile audit, an English-language opportunity check, a prioritised action plan and a recorded video walkthrough.

Use it if: you want to know what you need before hiring anyone.

The ongoing work: monthly retainer

About €785, €1,305 or €2,175 a month

That is US$900, US$1,500 or US$2,500, matched to how competitive your market is and agreed on the call. No minimum term.

Use it if: you want senior SEO without adding a salary.

If the site itself is the problem: WordPress build

Before you hire anyone, find out where you actually stand

Run the free checker for a quick read on broken links, missing schema, thin pages and AI visibility gaps. No email needed for the critical findings, no sales call. It is a rough snapshot rather than a full crawl, the paid audit is where we go deep.

Where the money leaks

Hiring before you know the workloadA full-time hire for a part-time need costs €66,000 or more a year. Find out how many hours you need first.
Ignoring English-language searchIn a city where so many residents and buyers are international, a Dutch-only site leaves a market untouched.
A translation button instead of English pagesAutomatic translation widgets are not proper pages, and searchers do not find them. Real English pages are what rank.
Comparing across the BTW lineMake sure every quote is on the same basis, excluding or including 21% BTW.
Ranking guaranteesNobody controls Google’s results. A guaranteed number one is either meaningless or a warning sign.

When you should not hire anyone yet

  • Your site cannot convert. More visitors multiply a leak. Fix the site first.
  • You have not claimed your Google Business Profile. For a local Eindhoven business that free asset often beats the first months of any package.
  • You need enquiries within a month. SEO compounds over months. Paid search buys visibility immediately.

Does your SEO provider need to be in Eindhoven?

For the work itself, no. Technical SEO, content and site structure do not depend on where the person doing them sits. A local provider makes sense if you need Dutch-language content or regular meetings in person, and Eindhoven has good ones.

Outside that, our prices are the same in every city, from The Hague to Dublin and Cork. So apply the same test to everyone, us included: how many hours, what the commitment is, and whether BTW is included.
